Abstract of the lecture
An Overview of Buddhism in China
Although Buddhism is not indigenous to China, after its arrival in the first few centuries CE it grew dramatically until it became a crucial part of Chinese culture and experience. This talk will present a basic outline of the history of Buddhism in China, introduce some of the most significant Buddhist movements and the various innovations and adaptations they made, and touch on how the influence of Confucianism and Daoism affected both the spread and transformations of Buddhism in China.
